Huangbu Shoal, Li River Highlights

Huangbu Shoal, Li River Highlights

Why got its this name
Huangbu Shoal or Yellow Cloth Shoal gets its name from a huge flagstone that resembles a piece of yellow cloth spreading at the bottom of the Lijiang Riv.er. The river becomes wider and calmer here and the water is so limpid that reflection of peaks can easily be seen in the water. Huangbu Shoal is the most beautiful spot on the Lijiang River and it draws a image number of photographers and enthusiasts each year. The images of Huangbu Shoal by Guilin photographers have been selected for several international photography exhibitions.

Legend and Story
In addition, there’s a legend on the seven peaks alongside. It’s said that the seven peaks are actually fairy girls from the heaven. One day, they traveled to Li River and were greatly attracted by the fascinating landscape here. Therefore, they lingered here for a long time. Later, Jade Emperor annoyed and ordered them to return. However, the seven fairy girls turned themselves into peaks and stayed here forever.

How to get there
There are two ways to reach the spot. Hire a boat at Xingping Wharf to get you there (boat charge: about 1 O0 yuan) or drive from Xingping. Take the country road to the riverside Yangjia Village about three kilometers away. Any high chassis height car would be suitable for the trip. From the village you can then take a bamboo raft to the shooting spot on the other side of the river.?

For Your Information
As the water at Huangbu Shoal is almost mirror-like, one or two bamboo rafts on the river will make a perfect composition. When hiring a boat, you can ask the boat owner to bring along one or two bamboo rafts. The price for hiring a bamboo raft is around 30 yuan.
