Calligraphy, means the beautiful writing, one renowned art to the chinese people. So it's not only a method of communication, but also a symbol of spirit. In the old days, chinese calligraphy was once a critical standard for the Chinese literati. And they developed more and more styles. Take some for examples, the Lishu style, more regularized and similar to the modern text; The Kaishu style, even more regularized and still in use at present; The Cursive styles such as Xingshu and Caoshu are written rapidly.
With a very long history, calligraphy has developed very well in China. Now, you can find many calligraphies on the west street in Yangshuo. If you want to learn it, there is school for you to turn to. But if you hope write it better, you should be confident , careful, and practise it as much as you can. By controlling the concentration of ink, the thickness and absorption of the paper, and the flexibility of the brush, the expression can be extremely creative.
Chinese calligraphy is different from the western, but you can combine them in Yangshuo, feel free to produce infinite variety of styles and forms. It is said that this is a most relaxing and highly disciplined exercise indeed for one's physical and spiritual well being. So many calligraphy artists were longevity according to the record.
