June 23rd in Baisha Town in Yangshuo
June 23rd in the lunar calendar is as important as Spring Festival to the people in Baisha town, it is said to be the birthday of Guanyu, a wise and brave hero in the old days. People there hold many kinds of activities to show their respect and commemoration to him on this day every year.
Except of offering sacrifice to pray for wealth, health and good luck, they will parade in the street with performing ethnic dances and riding horses. Some of the youngers will act the Liubei, Kongming and Zhangfei who are Guanyu's best partners in history. One of the festival's highlights is an exciting and competitive game called 'Qiang Hua Pao', which means to grab for the four standard prizes by catching a red ring sent to the sky with the explosive power of a firecracker. The ring is made of iron with a diameter of only three centimeters. The people will be devided into 10 teams consisted by more than 10 stronger men. There are four rounds, and the ring symbolizing the prize of the round is sent to the sky in each round. Meanwhile, each team will try their best to grab it. Those who get the ring will get the prize of the round.
Nowadays, this festival has been developed more colorful. Basketball, chess competitions as well as other interesting activities also will be showed during the festival.
